Sodium Chlorite features extensive industrial applications, primarily serving as a key disinfectant for water systems. Converted into chlorine dioxide, it efficiently eradicates Legionella and other waterborne bacteria for water purification. Unlike conventional chlorine disinfection, this process produces no harmful trihalomethanes such as chloroform. Apart from water treatment, it is widely used for textile stripping as well as pulp and paper processing. Furthermore, blended with zinc chloride, it functions as a functional component in therapeutic rinses, toothpastes and mouthwashes, and acts as a preservative for eye drops.
